Altargana is a biennial international festival celebrating Buryat and broader Mongolic culture, named after the altargana steppe shrub that symbolizes homeland in Buryat and Mongolian poetry. Rotating between host regions in Buryatia, Zabaykalsky Krai and Irkutsk Oblast in Russia and locations in Mongolia and Inner Mongolia, it brings together Buryat communities divided by national borders for song, dance and sport competitions.
