Yaroslavl answered years of local requests for an open-air jazz event with JazzPark, first staged in 2022 and run every other summer by the city's Jazz Center and State Philharmonic. Alternating with the older, biennial Jazz over the Volga festival, it stages outdoor performances along the river embankment, often opened by a jazz concert performed aboard a boat cruising the Volga.

Yaroslavl already had a serious claim to jazz history before JazzPark ever existed, hosting Jazz over the Volga, one of the oldest jazz festivals in Russia, on a biennial cycle for decades.
