Ural Music Night in Yekaterinburg
Ural Music Night is a free, overnight international music festival held in Yekaterinburg on a Friday night into Saturday in late June. Performances run simultaneously across dozens of venues throughout the city center, closing with a shared open-air gala concert near the Sverdlovsk Drama Theatre as dawn approaches.
Yekaterinburg, the largest city in the Urals and a major Russian cultural and industrial center, built Ural Music Night around a format familiar from cities elsewhere in Europe that hold citywide music nights: rather than fencing off a festival ground and selling tickets, organizers open a large number of venues across the city simultaneously, from clubs and concert halls to museums and outdoor courtyards, and let anyone move between them for free over the course of a single night.
