La Marguerite Flower Festival in Castries/Multi-island
Held every October 17, Saint Lucia's La Marguerite Flower Festival, or La Magwit, continues a more than 250-year-old tradition rooted in one of the island's two historic flower societies. Costumed members parade with music and traditional Creole dance toward the Grande Fete, a celebration with roots in mutual-aid societies formed by enslaved Saint Lucians.
Each October 17, Saint Lucia's La Marguerite Flower Festival, known locally in Creole as La Magwit, brings one of the island's two historic flower societies into the streets in a tradition tracing back more than two hundred fifty years to the era of slavery on the island.
