Samoana Jazz Rising in Apia
Held annually on 30 April in Apia to coincide with UNESCO International Jazz Day, the Samoana Jazz and Arts Festival is a cross-border cultural event connecting Samoa and American Samoa, promoted under the joint 2Samoas banner. It brings jazz and arts performances to the capital as part of a wider regional cultural exchange programme.
Jazz is not a genre native to Samoa, but the Samoana Jazz and Arts Festival has built a specific, dated place for it in the Samoan cultural calendar by anchoring itself to 30 April, the date UNESCO designated as International Jazz Day to promote the art form's role in dialogue and mutual understanding worldwide.
