The 1000 Miglia passes through San Marino in Citta di San Marino
Each June, the historic 1000 Miglia classic car rally makes a scheduled stop in San Marino's historic center, letting free-of-charge crowds watch pre-1957 vintage cars, including legendary Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz models, process through the old town's medieval streets on their tour retracing the original endurance race route.
In the spring of 1927, two young Italian counts, Francesco Mazzotti and Aymo Maggi, organized an open-road endurance race across roughly a thousand miles of Italian countryside, running from Brescia to Rome and back.
