Festival de Podor in Podor
Known locally as Festival Les Blues du Fleuve, this is Podor's flagship cultural gathering, founded in 2006 by Senegalese singer Baaba Maal, who was born in Podor. Held each December on the Quai Elhadj Boubou Sall along the Senegal River, it draws musicians and cultural workers from Senegal and Mauritania to celebrate Halpulaar and Toucouleur heritage through concerts, exhibitions, and cross-border exchange.
Podor is one of the hottest towns in Senegal, a colonial river outpost on the Senegal River across from Mauritania, and for most of the year it draws few outside visitors beyond history buffs touring its old fort and trading warehouses.
