Belgrade Marathon in Belgrade
Belgrade Marathon traces its roots to a 1910 walking race and became a standard 42.195-kilometer marathon in 1990, notably still held in 1999 during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. Run each April along the Danube through Zemun's Gardos Tower and New Belgrade, the 2025 edition drew over 1,500 marathon finishers among thousands of total participants.
Long before Belgrade had a modern marathon, it had a walking race.
