Nisville Jazz Festival in Niš
Nisville Jazz Festival has run each August since the mid-1990s inside the Nis Fortress in southern Serbia, staging jazz alongside world, ethno and fusion music across multiple open-air stages built into the fortress's ramparts, tunnels and courtyards over several nights.
Nis, one of the oldest cities in the Balkans and long a strategic crossroads between Central Europe and the wider region, is home to a fortress built by the Ottomans in the early eighteenth century on the foundations of earlier Roman and medieval defenses.
