The story

Vidovdan Assembly Vrdnik in Vrdnik

Vidovdan Assembly Vrdnik has run every June 28 since 2003, honoring Saint Prince Lazar, whose relics were once kept at Vrdnik Monastery, known as Mala Ravanica because it was founded by monks from Ravanica Monastery. Opened each year in Prnjavordski Park, the gathering has reached at least its twentieth edition and includes a tournament alongside folk programming.

Vrdnik, a small town on the slopes of Fruska Gora in Vojvodina, holds a connection to Serbian medieval history that runs deeper than its size might suggest.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Vidovdan Assembly Vrdnik ties a modern annual gathering directly to one of Serbian medieval history's most significant figures: Vrdnik Monastery once held the relics of Saint Prince Lazar, the ruler martyred at the 1389 Battle of Kosovo, and the monastery's own founding community of monks came from Ravanica Monastery near Cuprija, earning Vrdnik the nickname Mala Ravanica, meaning Little Ravanica

02

The mystery stays covered

Held every June 28, Vidovdan itself, Saint Vitus Day and the anniversary of the Kosovo battle, the assembly is also timed to coincide with Vrdnik's own parish feast day

03

The city starts moving

Running continuously since 2003 and opened each year in the town's Prnjavordski Park, the event has reached at least its twentieth edition, combining religious commemoration with a tournament and folk cultural programming
