Festival Kreol on Praslin in Praslin
Praslin's island-specific programming within Festival Kreol, Seychelles' annual celebration of Kreol Seselwa language and culture held each October since 1985. While the flagship events run in and around Victoria, Praslin hosts its own satellite activities -- markets, music and dance -- as part of the same nationally coordinated week.
Festival Kreol was established in 1985 to mark and celebrate the official recognition of Kreol Seselwa as a national language, a status written into Seychelles' 1981 constitution as part of the post-independence government's effort to build an identity distinct from the French and English inherited from colonization.
