Festival Kreol in Victoria

Festival Kreol is Seychelles' flagship cultural festival, held every year in late October across Victoria and the main islands. Established in 1985 to celebrate Seychellois Creole identity, it brings together Creole cuisine, moutya and sega music, kontredans dance competitions, storytelling, and craft displays, drawing residents and visitors from Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue for a week centred on Creole language and heritage.

Festival Kreol began in 1985, nine years after Seychelles' 1976 independence from Britain, at a moment when the young republic was deciding what to do with a language most of its people spoke at home but few had studied formally in school.
