Pongal Singapore in Little India
Pongal Singapore is the Tamil harvest festival celebrated each January in Little India, centred on Campbell Lane, where the Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association and the Indian Heritage Centre organise the boiling of sweet pongal rice in clay pots, kolam floor art, and a street bazaar selling sugarcane, festive produce, and prayer items.
Pongal marks the Tamil harvest festival that falls in mid-January, at the start of the Tamil month of Thai, and celebrates the sun's return northward after the winter solstice along with the rice harvest that sustains South Indian agrarian life.
