Košice City Day in Košice
Kosice City Day, known in Slovak as Dni mesta Kosice, is held around May 7 each year to commemorate the anniversary of Kosice becoming, in 1369, the first city in Europe to receive its own coat of arms from a reigning monarch, King Louis I of Hungary. The multi-day civic celebration includes a craft market, cultural programming, and the Kosice Knights' Festivities.
On May 7, 1369, King Louis I of Hungary granted the city of Kosice its own coat of arms, a heraldic charter that, according to the city's own historical account, made Kosice the first city in Europe to receive one as a legal entity.
