Svidník Ruthenian-Ukrainian Culture Festival in Svidník
The Festival of Rusyn and Ukrainian Culture of Slovakia in Svidník, held annually in mid-June since 1956, is widely described as the oldest continuously running folk festival in Slovakia, filling the town's amphitheatre with folklore ensembles, traditional music and dance from the domestic Rusyn-Ukrainian minority community and international guest groups.
In 1956, in the town of Svidník tucked into the hills of Slovakia's northeastern Prešov region, local organizers staged a folklore gathering intended to showcase the traditional music, dance and dress of the area's Rusyn and Ukrainian minority communities.
