The story

Bled Festival in Bled

Festival Bled is a two-week classical music festival held every July around Lake Bled, founded in 1996 by violinist Jernej Brence. Concerts take place at the Bled Festival Hall, Bled Castle, the island church, Vila Bled, and the lakeside Cafe Belvedere, alongside masterclasses and a viola and violin competition.

Every July for two weeks, Lake Bled becomes one of the more unusual concert circuits in European classical music, moving performers and audiences between a medieval hilltop castle, a tiny pilgrimage church reachable only by wooden boat, a former state villa, and a lakeside cafe.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Festival Bled sets classical performance against some of Slovenia's most recognizable landmarks: the medieval Bled Castle above the lake, the pilgrimage church on Bled Island reachable only by traditional pletna boat, and Vila Bled, once a Tito-era state residence

02

The mystery stays covered

The festival, led since 1996 by founder and artistic director Jernej Brence, has commissioned and premiered over a hundred works by Slovene composers, giving it a genuine role in developing the national classical repertoire rather than only touring an international program

03

The city starts moving

Alongside concerts, it runs structured masterclasses and a viola and violin competition, pairing established international musicians with young players over the festival's roughly two-week run
