Oppikoppi in Northam
Oppikoppi was a long-running South African music festival held near Northam in Limpopo province, first held in August 1995. Once ranked among the world's best music festivals and credited with jump-starting South Africa's live music scene in the late 1990s, it took a gap year in 2019 after criticism of its 2018 edition and has not been confirmed to have returned since.
Oppikoppi began modestly in August 1995, when 27 local acts performed for a small crowd of enthusiasts on farmland near the mining town of Northam in what is now Limpopo province.
