Daegu International Musical Festival in Daegu

Daegu's musical theater festival, known as DIMF, launched in the mid-2000s as the first festival in the world built solely around musicals, at a time when Korean musical theater had little international presence. Running every summer since, it combines performances with a dedicated academy and star-development program, and productions it has nurtured have gone on to stages in China, Eastern Europe, and Broadway.

When Daegu launched its musical theater festival in the mid-2000s, Korean musical theater, now often shorthanded as K-musical, was still a marginal presence on the world stage, overshadowed by long-established Broadway and West End traditions.
