Gimje Horizon Festival in Gimje
An autumn harvest festival held at the ancient Byeokgolje reservoir site, celebrating Gimje's unusually flat, wide-open horizon and its long history as one of Korea's key rice-farming regions. Golden paddies, harvest demonstrations, folk parades, and free nighttime light displays mark the event each year since its 1999 founding, drawing visitors from across the province.
Gimje sits on one of the only stretches of Korea where a visitor can turn in a circle and see nothing but flat horizon in every direction, a rarity in a country dominated by mountains, and the city built an entire autumn festival around that landscape.
