Seoul Fringe Festival in Seoul

An open-access indie arts festival held every summer in Seoul's Hongdae district since 2001, having started in Daehangno in 1998. Uniquely among Korean festivals, it accepts performers without jury selection, drawing international participants alongside Korean artists across roughly twenty small theaters and galleries for theater, dance, music, and experimental performance.

Seoul Fringe Festival began in 1998 in the Daehangno theater district under the name Independent Art Festival, part of a wave of new Korean arts events launched in the aftermath of the 1997 Asian financial crisis, when independent artists were looking for spaces outside the commercial gallery and theater systems.
