Rototom Sunsplash in Benicassim

A major European reggae festival that began in an Italian nightclub in the early 1990s and has run each summer in Benicassim, on Spain's Valencian coast, since 2010. Ten days of Jamaican, dub and international reggae acts pair with beachfront camping, workshops and cultural programming funded entirely through ticket sales.

Rototom Sunsplash began life not in Spain but in a small nightclub in Gaio di Spilimbergo, northeastern Italy, where a cultural association opened a venue in the early 1990s that grew into a self-funded reggae festival by 1994.
