Sinhala Avurudu Games Festival Colombo in Colombo

Colombo's Sinhala and Tamil New Year period each April brings community-organised Avurudu games to grounds and lanes across the city, including the blindfolded elephant-eye game, coconut-scraping races, tug-of-war and the pond-side pillow fight known as Kotta Pora. Many gatherings close with a pageant crowning an Avurudu Kumariya and Kumaraya as the New Year's princess and prince.
