The story

Schools Song Festival in Paramaribo

The Schools Song Festival, or Scholen Songfestival, is a newly launched youth singing competition in Paramaribo organized by LR Management, giving a platform to secondary-school-age students aged 16 to 23. Auditions were held through MULO and secondary schools ahead of a planned first event on February 28, 2026.

In December 2025, LR Management announced plans for a large-scale youth talent platform in Paramaribo called the Scholen Songfestival, or Schools Song Festival, aimed at giving secondary-school-age Surinamers between 16 and 23 a dedicated singing competition of their own.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

This is a brand-new initiative aimed specifically at giving young Surinamese talent, defined as students aged 16 to 23, a dedicated competitive stage, distinguishing it from Suriname's older heritage and religious holidays by being a private, youth-development-oriented entertainment product rather than a civic or ethnic commemoration

02

The mystery stays covered

Organizer LR Management structured the event around a pre-competition audition phase held directly through MULO and other secondary schools, embedding the festival into the school system itself as the primary recruitment channel rather than open public sign-up

03

The city starts moving

The stated aim was to create a large-scale platform, described in coverage as grootschalig, or large-scale, positioning the festival as an ambitious new entry into Suriname's youth entertainment and talent-development scene
