The story

Are Bike Festival in Are

Are Bike Festival is the Nordic region's largest mountain-biking festival, held over a July weekend on the slopes of Areskutan in Jamtland. Run by the volunteer club Are Bergscyklister since 2010, it grew out of earlier local gatherings like Mountain Mayhem into an international meeting point for downhill racers, enduro riders and recreational cyclists, mixing Swedish championship competition with lift-served night rides on the mountain.

Mountain biking on Areskutan predates the modern festival by decades.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival's program stretches well beyond racing: alongside Swedish championship downhill and enduro events, riders compete in oddball contests like Burning Logs, where competitors tow a lit log behind their bikes in a head-to-head sprint, and BH/DH, a downhill race reserved for women that has steadily grown female participation at the festival

02

The mystery stays covered

A chairlift keeps Areskutan's trails running after dark for midnight biking sessions, and technique clinics in downhill, trail and pumptrack riding sit alongside the racing card

03

The city starts moving

Unlike its unofficial 1990s and 2000s predecessors, Are Bike Hallidey and Mountain Mayhem, the current festival was built from the outset with an international rather than purely local audience in mind
