Nordea Open Bastad in Bastad
Nordea Open is Sweden's premier clay-court tennis tournament, held every July in the small seaside resort of Bastad on the Bjare peninsula. Combining an ATP men's event with a WTA women's tournament, it has drawn top international players to Bastad since the tournament's origins in the late 1940s, when it grew out of the town's summer holiday culture into one of the longest-running stops on the professional tennis calendar.
Tennis has been part of Bastad's summer identity since the town's grand hotels and tennis clubs made it a fashionable coastal retreat in the early twentieth century, and the tournament that grew out of that culture, long known as the Swedish Open, has been played since the late 1940s, making it one of the oldest continuously staged stops on the men's professional tour.
