The story

Gotland Grand National in Gotland

The Gotland Grand National is an enduro motorcycle race on the Swedish island of Gotland, held every All Saints' Day weekend since 1984. Regularly drawing more than three thousand riders from around the world, it is widely regarded as the largest enduro competition anywhere, run over demanding off-road terrain each autumn.

In 1984, members of the motorcycle club GMF Bysarna, working with Sweden's Voluntary Motorcycle Corps and officers from the Gotland Regiment, organized the first Gotland Grand National on the island's Tofta firing range.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Founded in 1984 by the motorcycle club GMF Bysarna together with Sweden's Voluntary Motorcycle Corps and support from officers of the Gotland Regiment, the race grew from a regional gathering into a global fixture, passing two thousand entrants for the first time in 2000 and setting a record of 3,172 riders in 2016

02

The mystery stays covered

In 2018 it joined the World Enduro Super Series as the penultimate of eight rounds worldwide

03

The city starts moving

For four decades it ran on the Tofta firing range, a military ground leased to organizers once the Swedish Armed Forces cleared the dates, but after 2023 the Fortifications Agency needed the land back for increased activity following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the race relocated to Hejdeby in 2024 under the name Gotland Grand National 2

Getting around

Plan arrival around the route or course in Gotland; closures can make normal travel slower.

What to wear

Safety

At Gotland Grand National, respect barriers, moving equipment and marshal guidance; photos are never worth stepping into active areas.
