The story

This Is Hultsfred in Hultsfred

This is Hultsfred was a community-organised music festival that ran from 2013 to 2016, created as a successor to the original Hultsfredsfestivalen after that longer-running event ended. It was founded by a dedicated association formed on 14 April 2013.

Hultsfred, a small town in Smaland with a population far too modest to obviously support one of Sweden's biggest music festivals, nonetheless did exactly that for decades.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

This is Hultsfred grew directly out of the legacy of Hultsfredsfestivalen, which ran from 1986 through 2009 and again in 2011 and 2012, and which had been Sweden's biggest music festival during stretches of the 1990s and mid-2000s

02

The mystery stays covered

When that festival ended, a new association organised This is Hultsfred as a community-driven continuation, adopting the motto gar det inte sa gar det anda, roughly translating to if it cannot be done, it will get done anyway, a defiant statement of intent from a town determined to keep its festival identity alive
