Lidingoloppet in Lidingo

Lidingoloppet is an annual cross-country running event held on the island of Lidingo, near Stockholm, on the last weekend of September. Established in 1965, its flagship 30-kilometer race and several shorter companion distances together make it, by most measures, the largest cross-country running event anywhere in the world.

By the 1960s, the Vasaloppet ski marathon had already become a defining fixture of Swedish endurance sport, a mass-participation event that opened elite competition to ordinary athletes willing to cover a long distance under difficult conditions.
