The story

Ultravasan in Salen/Mora

Ultravasan is an ultramarathon trail run held each August between Salen and Mora in Dalarna, following the same route as the historic Vasaloppet ski race. Launched in 2014, it is Sweden's largest ultramarathon and is run across two distances, Ultravasan 90 and Ultravasan 45, both finishing under the same historic Mora arch.

Ultravasan first ran in 2014, built explicitly to carry the Vasaloppet name and route into trail running rather than cross-country skiing.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Ultravasan directly reuses the trail of the 90 kilometer Vasaloppet ski race, the world's oldest and largest cross-country ski marathon, translating a century-old winter sporting tradition into a summer trail-running event

02

The mystery stays covered

Swedish ultrarunner Jonas Buud, one of the sport's most successful competitors internationally, was involved in creating the race and went on to win its first edition

03

The city starts moving

Course modifications made in 2023 lengthened the full distance from 90 to roughly 92 kilometers and added more technical terrain to the first half, and despite the demanding distance, the shorter Ultravasan 45 option draws fewer entrants than the full 90 kilometer race, an unusual pattern that reflects the pull of completing the historic full route
