Umea Jazz Festival in Umea
Umea Jazzfestival has run since 1968, when Umea musician Lars Lystedt founded it with the Umea student union, making it one of Sweden's oldest continuously organised jazz festivals. It is now organised by Umea Folkets Hus after decades under the regional music organisation and Norrlandsoperan.
In 1968, Umea musician Lars Lystedt set out to bring jazz to a university city that, at the time, had little dedicated infrastructure for the genre.
