The story

Zermatt Unplugged in Zermatt

Zermatt Unplugged strips festival production down to acoustic sets, staged every April in the car-free village of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn. Running since 2008, the festival spreads concerts across hotel bars, a snow igloo village, a mountain chapel and an open-air main stage, timed to the tail end of ski season so a day on the slopes can end with a small-room acoustic show under the peak.

Zermatt Unplugged takes the festival format and strips away the usual stack of amplifiers and stage lighting rigs, asking touring artists to perform acoustic sets in a mountain village still deep in its ski season.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Zermatt Unplugged is defined by its format as much as its setting: touring artists rework their catalogue into acoustic, stripped-down sets rather than playing standard festival production, performing in hotel bars, a purpose-built snow igloo village, a mountain chapel and an open-air stage

02

The mystery stays covered

Running every April since 2008, the timing lines up with the last weeks of the ski season, letting visitors combine daytime skiing with evening concerts in a car-free alpine village

03

The city starts moving

Because Zermatt bans private cars, moving between venues means walking snowy lanes a few minutes apart with the Matterhorn visible over the rooftops, an intimacy that larger open-air festivals on flat showgrounds cannot really replicate
