The story

Organ and Music Festival Syria in Damascus/Latakia/Aleppo

Organ and Music Festival Syria brings pipe organ concerts to churches and opera houses in Damascus, Aleppo, and Latakia each spring, organized by the Terra Sancta Organ Festival in cooperation with the Damascus Opera House and Higher Institute of Music. Syrian and European musicians perform side by side, restoring instruments and repertoire in a country where public classical concert life was badly disrupted by years of war.

Each spring, churches and concert halls in Damascus, Aleppo, and Latakia host the Organ and Music Festival Syria, part of the wider Terra Sancta Organ Festival that also runs concerts in Lebanon, Israel, and Palestine.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival is built around a genuinely unusual act of cultural repair: the Custody of the Holy Land in Syria owns pipe organs in Damascus and Aleppo that needed restoration before they could be played again, and the festival grew directly out of that restoration effort as a sign of peace and solidarity across a region also covering Lebanon, Israel, and Palestine

02

The mystery stays covered

Concerts pair Syrian musicians, including the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra and the Higher Institute of Music's choir and orchestra, with visiting European organists, and past editions have featured explicit genre-crossing, such as a Jazz Organ concert blending oriental musical identity with the Western organ tradition, at the Damascus Opera House
