Hualien Daylily Flower Season in Chike Mountain/Sixty Stone Mountain
Hualien's daylily flower season lights up two mountains in the East Rift Valley, Sixty Stone Mountain in Fuli Township and Chike Mountain in Yuli Township, with orange blooms each year from roughly July through September. Both areas were resettled by farmers after catastrophic flooding in 1959 and shifted from rice to daylily cultivation soon after.
Two mountains on opposite sides of Hualien's East Rift Valley turn orange at almost the same time each year, and both owe their daylily fields to the same disaster.
