Rock in Taichung in Taichung

Rock in Taichung began in 2007 as a grassroots indie-music event and has grown into the city government's flagship autumn music festival, typically held in September or October at Wenxin Forest Park or Yuanman Outdoor Theater. The free, multi-stage event is explicitly built to nurture Taiwanese indie and rock talent rather than book major international headliners.

Rock in Taichung began the way a lot of independent music scenes begin: with a small group of organizers who wanted a stage and went straight to the person who could give them one.

Founded independently in 2007 by a grassroots group called Rock Kickoff Music Club, who lobbied then-mayor Hu Chih-chiang directly, the Taichung City Government began co-organizing the following year and took over full production from 2009 onward
