Jazz a Carthage in Carthage/Tunis
Jazz a Carthage is a Tunisian jazz festival founded in 2005 by the private Scoop Organisation, spreading concerts across Tunis's northern suburbs, including La Marsa and Gammarth, as an independent alternative to state-run cultural programming. It filled the gap left by the fading Tabarka Jazz Festival that decade.
Jazz a Carthage occupies a distinctive place in Tunisia's festival landscape as one of the country's rare privately organized cultural projects, founded in 2005 by Scoop Organisation at a time when Tunisia's most prominent festivals, from the Carthage amphitheatre concerts to the symphonic programming at El Jem, were run through the Ministry of Culture and state cultural institutions.
