The story

Sicca Jazz in Le Kef

Sicca Jazz is an annual international jazz festival held each spring inside the Kasbah citadel of Le Kef, a hilltop town in northwestern Tunisia. Founded in 2016 and named after the town's Roman-era name, Sicca Veneria, the festival pairs touring jazz and world-music artists with Tunisian musicians across four days of ticketed concerts, a free open-air stage, and industry showcases in the municipal garden.

Le Kef sits on a limestone spur in northwestern Tunisia, close to the Algerian border, its Kasbah citadel visible for miles across the surrounding valleys.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What sets Sicca Jazz apart is its setting: performances take place within the stone walls of an Ottoman-era Kasbah perched above the valleys of the Tell region, so the acoustics and backdrop are inseparable from the music

02

The mystery stays covered

The festival has hosted internationally recognized artists such as oud player and composer Anouar Brahem and British-Bahraini trumpeter Yazz Ahmed, giving a town of roughly 40,000 people a program that draws serious touring jazz names rather than tribute acts

03

The city starts moving

Its opening night is timed to April 30, the eve of International Jazz Day, linking a small northwestern Tunisian town to a global jazz calendar

04

The water draws everyone in

A dedicated professional showcase space in the municipal garden also positions it as a launchpad for emerging regional musicians, not just a concert series
