International Mountain Caves Festival Sened in Sened
The International Mountain Caves Festival of Sened is a spring cultural event in the Gafsa governorate's Sened delegation, held annually in March. Now past its fifteenth edition, it uses the region's Berber cave dwellings as a backdrop for craft exhibitions, culinary competitions, and performances drawn from Tunisian, Algerian, and Libyan Berber traditions.
In the hills of the Gafsa governorate in southern-central Tunisia, the small delegation of Sened is known for a landscape feature most visitors would not expect to anchor a festival: cave dwellings carved into the mountainside, once inhabited by Berber (Amazigh) communities.
