International Oasis Festival of Tozeur in Tozeur
The Festival International des Oasis de Tozeur is a four-day heritage festival held each December in the oasis town of Tozeur in southwestern Tunisia. Tracing back to a 1938 date-harvest celebration and now an internationally recognized event, it fills festival squares, an open-air theater and a restored medina house with folkloric troupes, camel and horse displays, and craft markets tied to the Jerid region's oasis life.
Tozeur's palm groves have supported a farming community for well over a thousand years, fed by an ancient irrigation system that channels spring water through more than 200 named oasis gardens.
