Istanbul Theatre Festival in Istanbul

The Istanbul Theatre Festival is Turkey's most established theatre event, founded in 1989 by IKSV to bring international and Turkish theatre, dance and performance companies together for an audience accustomed mainly to national stages, presenting recent premieres and productions rather than a retrospective program spanning decades of past work.

For most of its history, Turkish audiences experienced international theatre only through touring companies that occasionally passed through Istanbul or through what state and municipal theatres chose to stage.
