Izmir European Jazz Festival in Izmir
The Izmir European Jazz Festival brings jazz musicians from across Europe and Turkey to Izmir every March, organized since 1994 by the Izmir Foundation for Culture, Arts and Education and centered on the purpose-built Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center, with support from European consulates in the region.
Izmir already had a summer arts festival by the early 1990s, but jazz specifically had no dedicated home in the city's cultural calendar until the Izmir Foundation for Culture, Arts and Education, known by its Turkish acronym IKSEV, launched the Izmir European Jazz Festival in 1994, the same year Istanbul's IKSV split off its own jazz festival from its flagship music festival.
