Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival in Serik/Aspendos
The Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival stages opera and ballet productions inside a two-thousand-year-old Roman theatre near Antalya, organized by the Turkish State Opera and Ballet since 1994 and drawing companies from across Turkey and Europe to one of the best-preserved ancient theatres in the world.
The Aspendos theatre has stood largely intact since its construction under Roman rule, and its preservation is remarkable enough that historians of ancient architecture regularly cite it as one of the best-surviving examples of its type anywhere in the world, with much of its original stonework, stage structure and seating still functional rather than reconstructed.
