Source of the Nile Marathon in Jinja

The Source of the Nile Marathon is an annual road race in Jinja, launched from Hared Gym as one of the earliest additions to the Uganda Athletics Federation's official race calendar. Held along Jinja's main streets under the slogan Pound the Miles and Save Lives, it raises funds for Jinja Hospital's maternity ward and has drawn hundreds of local and international runners, including elite East African athletes.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The race's defining feature is its charitable mission paired with genuine competitive standing: proceeds support Jinja Regional Referral Hospital's maternity services under the slogan Pound the Miles and Save Lives, while the Uganda Athletics Federation has treated it as a significant fixture on the national calendar, at points factoring performances at the race into national team selections for events like the World Half Marathon Championships

02

The mystery stays covered

Editions have drawn upward of 200 to 300 runners, including foreign elite athletes and Kenyan competitors such as winner Saibi Chebet, running a route through the main streets of Jinja, the town regarded as the source of the River Nile
