KharkivMusicFest in Kharkiv

Kharkiv Music Festival is an annual international classical music festival held each spring in Kharkiv, Ukraine, since 2018. Co-founded by pianist Stanislav Khristenko and colleagues under the charity foundation TOLOKA, it pairs concerts at the Kharkiv Philharmonic and Lysenko Opera and Ballet Theatre with performances in subways, malls, and open-air spaces, plus its signature Art Piano project of painted pianos placed around the city.

Kharkiv Music Festival grew out of an idea from pianist Stanislav Khristenko, who co-founded the event in 2018 with Serhii Polituchyi and Ihor Tuluzov under the charity foundation TOLOKA.

The festival's defining trait is how it takes classical music out of concert halls entirely: since 2018 its Art Piano project has installed hand-painted pianos in shopping malls, metro stations, and public squares across Kharkiv so passersby can play them, and its Festival Orchestra brings together Ukrainian musicians with visiting international soloists such as cellist Gautier Capucon and pianist Paul Lewis
