Khortytsia Folk Festival in Khortytsia
The event known locally as Pokrova na Khortytsi, an All-Ukrainian Cossack folk festival, is held annually around October 1 at the Khortytsia National Reserve, timed to the Feast of the Intercession and Defenders of Ukraine Day. It has run for over 14 years, but Khortytsia island has been closed to general public visitors since 2022 for security reasons, forcing recent editions into a scaled-down or online-broadcast format.
Khortytsia, the largest island on the Dnipro River, has held a central place in Ukrainian national memory for centuries as the historic heartland of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, and the island's annual folk festival, known formally as the All-Ukrainian Cossack Festival Pokrova na Khortytsi, was built specifically to honor that legacy.
