The story

Bandershtat Festival in Lutsk

Bandershtat is a nationwide festival of the Ukrainian spirit held each summer in and around Lutsk, Volyn, since its first edition in 2007. An alcohol-free, non-competitive gathering of Ukrainian-language alternative music acts, it combines concerts with workshops promoting Ukrainian culture, language, healthy living, and the legacy of Stepan Bandera.

Bandershtat is described by its organizers as an all-Ukrainian festival of the Ukrainian spirit, held every summer in Volyn, in the city of Lutsk and its surroundings, functioning as an artistic calling card for the region since it first took place in 2007 and became an annual fixture from then on.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Bandershtat pioneered the alcohol-free festival format in Ukraine, a policy organizer Serhiy Martyniuk says was later adopted by other festivals including Kholodny Yar

02

The mystery stays covered

Participation is free for performers, restricted to acts with a live Ukrainian-language repertoire free of anti-Ukrainian content, profanity, or promotion of harmful habits, and bands from outside Lutsk are provided housing only for the day of their own performance, reflecting the festival's grassroots, non-commercial organizing model built around explicit ideological commitments to Ukrainian identity
