Brighton Festival in Brighton
Since 1967, Brighton has invited a different guest artistic director each May to shape its flagship arts festival, spanning theatre, dance, music, literature, and visual art across venues including the Regency-era Brighton Dome, making it England's largest annual multi-arts festival outside London and a curated counterpart to the much larger, open-access Brighton Fringe running alongside it.
Each May since 1967, Brighton has handed creative control of its flagship arts festival to a different guest artistic director, a tradition that has brought choreographers, musicians, and writers in to shape a themed program rather than leaving it to a fixed in-house curator year after year.
