Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen
An international choral and folk dance competition held each July in Llangollen since 1947, founded explicitly to promote post-war reconciliation through music. Choirs and dance groups from well over a hundred countries have competed here over the decades, performing in national dress in a purpose-built riverside pavilion.
Llangollen's international eisteddfod began in 1947 as a deliberate act of post-war reconciliation, proposed by Harold Tudor of the British Council as an independent music festival after the Welsh National Eisteddfod declined to add an international choral competition to its own programme so soon after the war.
