HebCelt Festival in Stornoway
A Celtic and folk music festival held each June on the Isle of Lewis since 1996, staged on Castle Green in front of Lews Castle overlooking Stornoway harbour. Mixing local Gaelic talent with touring international artists, it has grown from around a thousand attendees to well over sixteen thousand.
HebCelt began in June 1996 on the Isle of Lewis, founded by a group of local enthusiasts who secured backing through community networks to stage a Celtic music festival in the heart of the Outer Hebrides, an island chain more associated with Gaelic language preservation than large-scale music events.
