Whitby Folk Week in Whitby

One of the largest folk festivals in northern England, held in the historic port town of Whitby since 1965. Grown from a weekend event into a full week under organiser Malcolm Storey after the English Folk Dance and Song Society stepped back nationally, it now programmes over a hundred concerts alongside daily ceilidhs and workshops.

Whitby's folk festival began in 1965 as a weekend event organised by Tony Foxworthy, the North East representative of the English Folk Dance and Song Society, at a time when the society ran a network of similar regional folk weekends across England.
