The story

Treefort Music Fest in Boise

Treefort Music Fest is a five-day independent music and arts festival held each March across more than twenty venues in downtown Boise, Idaho, launched in 2012 as an alternative to larger corporate festivals like SXSW. Concerts spread across Julia Davis Park and more than twenty additional venues, with spin-off sub-festivals like Alefort and Hackfort expanding the event well beyond a single-genre concert lineup.

Treefort Music Fest began in March 2012 as an experiment by Duck Club, a Boise concert promotion company, to see whether a mid-sized city with a growing indie music scene could sustain its own multi-day festival without relying on major national headliners.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Treefort was founded and organized by Duck Club, a Boise-based concert promoter, and debuted in March 2012 with Built to Spill, The Joy Formidable, and Poliça among its first headliners, quickly earning a reputation as, in press coverage, the west's best SXSW alternative

02

The mystery stays covered

What distinguishes Treefort from most music festivals is its cluster of themed spin-off events running concurrently under one badge: Alefort pours beer from local and international breweries, Hackfort hosts technology talks and demos, Filmfort screens independent movies, and additional strands cover drag performance, food, storytelling, skateboarding, and children's programming, turning a single festival pass into access to a citywide creative ecosystem rather than just a concert lineup
